Details from this session

Devs often pair program. Companies that embrace it love the benefits. Have you tried pair research? Or pairing with someone from another discipline?

The reason many people haven’t tried pairing at work is that it feels like using two people to do one job might be a waste of time. After all, those two people could be doing two jobs at the same time, right?

What people who have tried pairing will tell you is that the combined experience of the two people makes for a much better product than if either one had been working on it alone. They can often also finish faster.

Pairing is useful for bringing someone new up to speed with a process or product. It’s also great for sharing expertise and learning in a real-world environment. And often, the learning is two-way. The more experienced member of a pair can almost always learn something from the less experienced member; either because of their questions, their different way of looking at the problem, or the different skill set they bring to the table.
